FLO and METRO Team Up For New Public EV Fast Charging in Quebec and Ontario

EV drivers in Quebec and Ontario can soon charge their vehicles while grocery shopping, thanks to FLO and METRO’s new partnership.

– FLO and METRO Inc. to install 500 EV fast charging ports at 130 grocery stores.

– The initiative aims to support Canada’s transition to an emission-free transportation sector.

– New dual port FLO Ultra fast chargers will charge most EVs to 80% in 15 minutes.

FLO and METRO Inc. have announced that they will be joining forces to install public EV fast charging stations across Quebec and Ontario. This initiative aims to provide EV drivers with convenient charging solutions at over 130 grocery store locations, including Metro, Super C, Food Basics, and Marché Adonis.

Expanding EV Charging Accessibility

Beginning in August, the partnership plans to install at least 500 fast charging ports. This deployment aims to integrate the charging experience into the everyday lives of EV drivers. According to FLO President and CEO Louis Tremblay, this initiative is crucial for helping Canada achieve its environmental goals and transitioning to an emission-free transportation sector.

METRO Inc. Vice President of Real Estate and Engineering, Michel Avigliano, emphasized the company’s dedication to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through this partnership. By providing fast charging options at grocery stores, METRO aims to reduce indirect emissions associated with customer transportation, contributing to a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.

The rollout of these new charging stations is supported by FLO’s partnership with the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), which has committed $235 million to the project. This investment will help bring over 1,900 public fast charging ports online across Canada by 2027. CIB CEO Ehren Cory highlighted the importance of investing in critical EV infrastructure that meets future needs and alleviates range anxiety for EV owners.

Introducing the FLO Ultra-Fast Charger

The charging stations at these grocery stores will feature the new dual port FLO Ultra-fast charger, which boasts up to 320 kW of power. This charger can bring most new EVs to 80% charge in just 15 minutes. When paired with a second FLO Ultra charger, the system can deliver up to 500 kW. Its modular design and extended cable length offer flexibility and ease of use for various EV models.
