Ford Adds a Convertible Version of the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC

• The Dark Horse SC was previously only available in fastback body style.

• The convertible retains the same 795-horsepower supercharged V8 engine.

• Deliveries are set to begin in the spring of 2027 for cars ordered this fall.

Less than a year after launching the Mustang Dark Horse SC, Ford is adding a convertible version of the highest-performance regular-production Mustang.

Indeed, the automaker unveiled a convertible Mustang Dark Horse SC earlier today at the Woodward Dream Cruise, in Detroit.

As expected, this version of the Mustang retains the 5.2L supercharged V8 engine that powers the fastback Dark Horse SC, along with the Tremec 7-speed dual clutch transmission and carbon fibre drive shaft.

Like in the coupe, this combination gives the Dark Horse SC convertible an output of 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful convertible Mustang ever and the first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013.

The design of the convertible also stays true to the Dark Horse SC coupe, with large grilles and air intakes upfront, a carbon fibre band on the front fascia, a large rear wing, unique wheel designs, and rectangular exhaust tips.

With that said, the convertible won’t be as hardcore as the coupe. Indeed, Ford says the convertible will have softer Magneride suspension tuning in order to provide a more comfortable grand touring experience, while the coupe keeps its track-tuned suspension.

Ford sees the Dark Horse SC convertible competing with the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible, the Mercedes-AMG SL, and the Porsche 911 convertible.

This slightly softer character also means that the optional Track Pack, which adds items such as carbon fibre wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and high-performance tires, will be limited to the coupe.

Visually, the convertible stands out from the coupe with a new available paint colour called Precision Purple, which is similar in concept to the Blue Ember Metallic that can be optioned on the coupe.

Buyers will also have a choice between black and light grey leather upholstery for the interior, which also includes carbon fibre accents on the dashboard and the centre console.

The order book will open this fall, and the first deliveries of the 2027 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible are expected to begin next spring.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but we expect the convertible to cost a few thousands more than the Dark Horse SC coupe, which starts at about $154,000 in Canada, including fees and the luxury tax.
