For the 2027 model year, Ford adds a more rugged version of its electric crossover called the Mustang Mach-E Trail.
Based on the entry-level Select eAWD trim level, the Trail borrows elements from the Mach-E Rally and pairs them with unique design elements to appeal to drivers who like to wander off paved roads.
While this package doesn’t make the Mach-E a full-on off-roader, it does increase the EV’s capabilities enough to make driving on snow, ice, loose gravel, and dust trails easier than with other trim levels.
Compared to the regular Mach-E Select, the Trail features 19-inch dark grey alloy wheels whose design is identical to those on the Rally, Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires also taken from the Mach-E Rally, and unique mountain-shaped graphics at the bottom of the front doors.
A carbon black lower front fascia is another distinctive characteristic of this variant, as is a “Mach-E Trail” logo embossed into the center console armrest.
Mechanically, the Trail benefits from additional ground clearance as its retuned suspension makes it sit 10 mm higher at the front and 15 mm higher at the rear than standard Mustang Mach-E models.
In addition, this version also benefits from a quicker steering rack, also borrowed from the high-performance Mach-E Rally.
To support the kind of adventures that require additional off-pavement capabilities, the automaker offers 100,000 additional Ford Rewards points at purchase of a 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail over the 22,000 points included with any Mach-E.
These points can be exchanged for a range of accessories, including a Thule clamp-on crossbar kit that makes it possible to install bikes, kayaks and cargo boxes on the vehicle’s roof, or an interior protection package that adds all-weather floor mats and a cargo compartment mat.
Apart from the Trail, the 2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E also receives a number of updates, including the discontinuation of the standard range battery and the use of a new front motor.
This means that all Select and Premium 2027 Mustang Mach-Es, including the new Trail, benefit from an 88-kWh battery while the GT and Rally models have a slightly larger 91 kWh unit.
While 2027 data isn’t yet available, the 2026 Mach-E Extended Range RWD is rated at a range of 515 km on a full charge by Natural Resources Canada, compared to 406 km with the smaller battery.
The Mach-E Trail is expected to offer a slightly lower range than the 483 kilometers achieved by the Extended Range Select and Premium Mach-Es on account of its more aggressive tires and higher suspension.
The new front drive unit is said to deliver the same power as the previous one despite being cheaper to manufacture, but we don’t know how its efficiency will compare with the current front motor.
The Mach-E Trail will include the 400 W Pro Power Onboard system as standard, and it will be optional on all other models except the Select.
Ford has already started taking orders for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E in the United States, but the brand’s Canadian website hasn’t been updated yet.
Canadian pricing for the Mach-E Trail hasn’t been announced yet either, but this shouldn’t take long since deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
