Dark Horse-based GT3 headed endurance racing
Multimatic and M-Sport will handle the car
Ford is taking the Mustang Dark Horse racing. Ford just revealed its latest factory race car in France, just ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, where it will compete in the GT3 category next year.
The Ford Mustang GT3 is based on the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. That’s the version of the Mustang aimed at weekend racers, but this car goes far beyond it.
The company talked more about the Troy Lee-designed livery on the car it revealed than it did the actual race car that’s coming. That new livery will be featured on all of Ford’s racers, it said. But Ford did still talk about the Mustang GT3 a little bit.
Enough to say that it will be developed by Multimatic and M-Sport. Ford has dealt with both for years in its road and race cars – Multimatic builds the Ford GT and M-Sport does its WRC cars.
Canadian firm Multimatic will build and support the Mustang GT3 cars and their program. That includes the car’s special carbon fibre body panels and a short-long arm suspension and rear transaxle. M-Sport will build the Ford Performance 5.4L V8 that goes under the hood. No power figures, but check out that sweet carbon fibre intake manifold.
Ford Performance will field a two-car factory team in the IMSA GTD Pro class starting with the Rolext 24 at Daytona. Customer teams will campaign the car in GT3 series around the world starting early next year.
