Higher top speed for latest truck
Can tow up to 11,700 lbs to jail
Ford has just announced another addition to its police pursuit offerings with the 2021 F-150 Police Responder. It gets more capability as well as a higher top speed, along with other features designed to make life easier for law enforcement.
It starts with the basic new 2021 Ford F-150, offered solely with the 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V5 making 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic and has an electronic locking rear diff for getting those sweet donuts and a 4×4 system with a new 4-Auto mode that engages the 4×4 system on demand instead of requiring the officer to change modes when they’re otherwise occupied.
New Goodyear Wrangler Enforcer tires are the only all-terrain pursuit-rated tires, Ford says, and they can handle the acceleration, speeds, and cornering of pursuit use while still working off-road. They allow the new higher 194 km/h top speed that comes for 2021.
Because the trucks can also be called into duty for jobs like towing police horse trailers, boats, or other heavy equipment, standard F-150 Police Responder can tow 7,000 lbs with 11,700 optional along with a 2,030 lb payload. The Trailer Tow package also gets a 360-degree camera, trailer reverse guidance, and other software amenities.
Also new to the police pack is a Police Engine Idle option that lets the officer remove the key and securely exit the truck while the engine is running. That helps provide accessory power for things like lights without worrying about theft. Front console delete options, available factory console upgrades, and a darker interior with “police-grade” cloth seats complete the package. They’re available to order now with delivery to start in the fall.
