Gas, EV, and hybrid vehicles take home trophies
The 2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year winners have just been announced.
Winning the 2024 North American Car of the Year Award, is the Toyota Prius and Prius Prime. Toyota redesigned its hybrid for with an eye on style instead of just efficiency this time around, greatly increasing the appeal of the new model.
North American Truck of the Year for 2024 is the Ford Super Duty. Ford updated the Super Duty with new interior tech as well as a new standard gas V8, and more cargo and towing capability.
The winner of North American Utility Vehicle of the Year for 2024 is the Kia EV9. Kia’s EV9 is the first large three-row electric vehicle to go on sale in North America. This allows larger families and those who need more space to go electric for the first time.
50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada voted on the awards. The jurors started with a list of 52 new or substantially changed for the model year vehicles that were then narrowed in three rounds of voting. All of the jurors and the semi-finalist vehicles were invited to an October drive event, followed by two more rounds of voting.
Five of the eight finalists this year were electric vehicles, including the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the Car category, Chevrolet Silverado EV in the Truck class, and the Genesis Electrified GV70, Kia EV9, and Hyundai Kona Electric in the Utility category.
