GM’s had issues with the Bolt requiring a production stop.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is selling extremely well.
Tesla still holds a massive lead.
There’s a race going on for second place where EV sales are concerned. The battle is raging on between both Ford and GM to see who will deliver more EVs in 2021. Unfortunately for GM and their Chevrolet Bolt, based on projections, the Ford Mustang Mach-E will outsell it this year.
The first place belongs to Tesla obviously. With an expected 900,000 deliveries this year, they are, as they say, killing it. In the first 10 months of 2021, GM sold 24,810 Chevrolet Bolts while Ford managed to sell 21,703 Mach-E EVs. Given these numbers, it seems illogical that Ford will outsell GM but the Bolts are in a tough position.
Various issues including battery problems and supply chain complications have forced GM to pause Bolt and Bolt EUV production possibly for the remainder of 2021 according to Business Insider. If Ford maintains its October numbers through November and December, the Mach-E will effectively outsell the Bolt.
The reality however is that most experts believe that GM will handily overtake Ford in the future. Ford’s momentum might take them through 2022 however GM will eventually take the lead.
