Ford says orders today could be ready for September
Plant set for 150k units next year
Ford says it has gotten a lot easier to buy one of its Lightning EV pickups. The automaker is getting ready to increase production of most grades, with orders today available for delivery as soon as September.
“Customer interest for XLT has considerably outstripped supply since the F-150 Lightning launch and we’ve worked with our suppliers to help address that,” said Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer, Ford Model e. “We heard loud and clear from our customers that they want their truck deliveries as close as possible to their orders. As we scale production, we are making this possible.”
The XLT model has seen the highest level of demand over what Ford could produce since the truck launched. Ford was instead building more Platinum and Lariat models because they were more profitable.
Ford says its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is currently working to triple Ford F-150 Lightning production rates. That means it will be able to build around 150,000 next year, but it means more trucks this year too.
The 2023 F-150 Lightning XLT starts from $64,474 in the US with a 240-mile range.
