The sneak peek video shows little more than a Ranger kicking up dust.
The sneak peek video does give us a listen to what will power the Ranger Raptor.
Ford’s Raptor sub-brand is going to have a huge year in 2022. We now have many details on the Bronco Raptor and at some point this year, the Raptor R, yes the V8 F-150 Raptor, will be launched. Now, we get a quick glimpse of the upcoming Ranger Raptor, and it sounds promising.
The brief video sneak peek shows a camouflaged Ranger Raptor doing Ranger Raptor things on a dirt course. We don’t get to see much of it but we do get an earful, and we think this was purposefully done. The engine sounds very much like a twin-turbocharged V6.
Ford’s EcoBoost V6 engines all have a very distinct metallic-like deep grumble and this Ranger Raptor’s engine and exhaust note have that sound. The Ford Bronco Raptor will feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Ecoboost V6 with a Ford Performance tuned for more than 400 horsepower. Although this seems to be a good fit for the Ranger, it’s possible we’re hearing the twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre Ecoboost V6 also found in the Bronco.
In its standard for, the 2.7T generates 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque which should be plenty for this application. If anything, it’s a step up from the 2.3-litre EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine which puts out 270-horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.
We’ll know more on February 22nd.
