Ford wasn’t going to end the year without issuing a major recall, another one in 2025. The American automaker dominated the automotive industry this year, running approximately 150 campaigns. And for what could well be the last one of the year, it’s inviting more than 272,000 models to the workshop to fix a transmission problem.
In Canada, 49,973 models are affected
Ford dominated the automotive recall scene in 2025
The issue can be fixed via an over-the-air update
The problem with the affected vehicles is that they may not remain in the Park position and could start moving forward or backward without warning.
The vehicles affected by this campaign are the Ford F-150 Lightning (2022 to 2026), the Mustang Mach-E (2024 to 2026), and the Ford Maverick Hybrid (2025 and 2026).
The company indicates that the models may carry a defective integrated park module, which could prevent the transmission from locking in park under certain conditions. If this occurs, Ford indicates that owners will not see the selected gear appear in the cluster. Instead, a wrench-shaped warning light and an error message concerning the shift system will display on the dashboard.
Obviously, if the park position is not secured, vehicles could start moving forward or backward if their electronic parking brake is not activated. The latter is supposed to engage automatically when the car is in park, but if a problem occurs on that side, the risk then becomes real.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem at this time. The good news is that Ford will fix the issue via an over-the-air update that will be available soon. Owners will also be able to go to a dealership to perform this upgrade.
Ford will notify dealers before January 26, 2026, and owners by mail before May 12, 2026.
