Off-road improvement pack still gets beefy towing, payload
More suspension travel, locking diffs, orange trim
Ford‘s Tremor package has shaken up the Super Duty truck lineup so much that it’s fallen down onto the F-150. The Ford F-150 Tremor adds unique off-road software features like one-pedal driving as well as beefed-up suspension and driveline parts to increase off-road capability while maintaining towing and payload capacity.
The Tremor package start with a SuperCrew truck with the 5.5-foot box and a 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Plus 4×4, of course. While there are three levels of standard interior equipment, all get the same changes to the suspension and those are what count.
Suspension changes for 2021 F-150 Tremor start with new front and rear springs with extra ground clearance. The front gets Tremor-spec monotube shocks and there are twin-tubes at the rear, both set up for softer damping at low speeds – like over rocks and trails – with more damping and control at high speeds. For things like jumps and…unexpected rocks. The front knuckles and cupper control arms are Tremor-spec as well.
A bash plate underneath protects the oily bits while 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels push out the stance and provide more traction. That gives it 1.5-inches more travel in the back and an inch in front while increasing approach, breakover, and departure angles.
All will get locking differentials front and rear with a Torsen limited-slip front hitting the options list later in the model year. Tremor high series get a torque-on-demand transfer case like the one in the Raptor that can shift power front and rear instead of always giving the same bias. Ford Trail Toolbox is a new set of off-road driver aids that are optional. One pedal drive handles braking for you, meaning there’s no more juggling gas and brake pedals. Trail Turn Assist brakes the inside rear wheel to help you turn tighter in low-speed, low-grip situations, and trail control is off-road cruise control.
Interior accents like Active Orange interior trim and special seat fabrics and other cabin materials along with a special hood, recovery hooks, and running boards complete the look. The 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor will hit showrooms in the summer.
Max towing is 10,900 lbs, while max payload is 1,885 lbs, meaning it can still move around plenty of gear. A 2.0 kW Pro Power Onboard is available to power tools or a compressor.
