Ford Teases Green New Mustang At 60th Birthday Party

There's a horse under the sheets

  • Is this the next Shelby?

  • Or is hybrid Mustang finally here?

As part of its 60th Anniversary party, Ford is teasing a new Mustang variant. We’re not sure what model Ford has planned exactly, but the company is dropping some hints that we think points to the next Shelby.

The green sheet over the car and the year are both big hints as to what could be coming. 2025 marks 50 years since the first Shelby Ford Mustang GT350 launched, a model name Ford has used many times since but is still missing from the latest generation of the car.

What about the sheet? Well, the prototype for the very first Shelby GT500 model in 1968 was painted green and called the Green Hornet. Ford has made a big deal about that car since it was recently rediscovered and restored. We don’t expect a new GT500 already, but it’s entirely possible. Of course this could also be the first hybrid Mustang, something along the lines of the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. This is, we’ll point out, largely speculation.

Here’s what we know for sure: Ford GM for enthusiast vehicles Matt Simpson said that “Mustang has always been about being the most fun-to-drive car,” and that “from road to racing, gas to electric – we’ve even got a street-legal supercar – the best is absolutely yet to come.”
