Fiat 500e is the lightest EV on sale
Launches in BC and PQ this Spring
The Fiat 500 is back in Canada. The Fiat 500e electric will return in 2024, and while it won’t be the most powerful or longest range it will be the funkiest and the lightest. And the only one that sings.
This is a Canadian-spec version of the 500e that has been on sale in Europe for a few years now, so there are no dramatic changes. But in case you aren’t up on city cars from Italy, here are the things you need to know.
The Fiat 500e gets a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers a 117 hp and 162 lb-ft electric motor driving the front wheels. Fiat expects up to 240 km of range, which is impressive for the small size of the pack. Credit goes to the lightweight, as the car is less than 3,000 lbs.
Fiat says the car can charge at up to 85 kW, giving it 0-80 percent in 35 minutes. A full charge on L2 takes just four hours 15.
The 2024 500e will launch in BC and Quebec, the two biggest EV markets in Canada, and will expand to the rest of the country later. Just one trim will be offered at launch, called Red. It is a partnership with the charity (Red) that includes a donation for each vehicle to the fund “to support life-saving prevention and treatment
programs in communities most in need.”
A starting price of $39,995 will come with a 10.25-inch screen, wireless phone charging, and heated front seats.
