The 2023 Polestar 3 and 2024 Polestar 5 GT will be far more distinct.
Polestar and Volvo will continue to share platforms.
Their future larger SUV will not be a rebranded Volvo XC90.
Polestar is only beginning to get its feet wet as its 2 is finding its way on our roads. Although the majority of people and consumers do not know the brand, they will recognize the Polestar 2 as being a close relative to Volvo, if not one of its new vehicles. This is something that will change going forward.
2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor First Drive Review: A Volume Move
Polestar wants to separate its brand image from that of Volvo, and with reason. Volvo is perceived as being safe and generally conservative. Polestar, on the other hand, wants to be more individualistic and osé. They also want to be perceived as a sportier and more premium brand. Examples of this are the Precept Concept GT and their future SUV.
“The next SUV won’t be a rebadged Volvo XC90,” explained Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, referring to the Polestar 3 SUV planned for some time in 2022 according to Carsguide. He goes on to say, “It will have the wheelbase and share many of its proportions with the XC90, but the product we put on top of that platform will be a specific aerodynamic SUV – think Porsche Cayenne clientele.”
Platforms will continue to be shared between the two brands. The next one, the SPA2, will underpin the Polestar 3. Powertrains will differ as a high-performance setup is being developed for the Polestar 3. It will be followed by a smaller Polestar 4 midsize SUV sometime in 2023. As far as the Precept concept is concerned, it will become the Polestar 5 and is due to arrive in 2024.
