Genesis, the luxury vehicle division of Hyundai, has commenced mass production of its revamped GV80 SUV and the brand-new GV80 Coupe. With the initial production volume in place, a comprehensive launch is on the horizon for October. This move is a part of Genesis’s strategy to sustain its momentum, having recently achieved over 1 million cumulative global sales, propelled significantly by the GV80.
The GV80, being the brand’s pioneer SUV model, was first introduced in January 2020. Globally, it’s available with various engine options, including a 3-liter diesel, a 2.5L gasoline turbo, and a 3.5L gasoline turbo. After undergoing two model year updates, the GV80 is now gearing up for its first significant facelift, anticipated to be revealed within a month.
A notable success story for Genesis, the GV80 played a pivotal role in the brand’s global sales figures. From its brand inception in November 2015, Genesis achieved 1 million sales in less than 8 years. The GV80’s global appeal is evident, having registered more pre-orders in North America than in Korea during its initial launch.
The upcoming GV80 will phase out existing diesel models, now offering an alternative three engine lineup. This includes two gasoline engines and a new gasoline-based mild hybrid engine. Another highlight is the brand’s maiden coupe-type model, the GV80 Coupe, harmonizing practicality with sportiness. Additionally, the new GV80 is set to feature an innovative OLED main display, marking Hyundai’s first venture into integrating OLED technology, produced by LG Display, into its main dashboard.
