Genesis Shows Off New G80 Sport in PEI-Inspired Red

G80 Sport gets special looks

  • Sport gets dark trim and upgraded interior

  • Will offer rear-wheel steer, but no engine details yet

Genesis has just revealed the first photos of its upcoming G80 Sport. The sports sedan model gets unique G-Matrix pattern wheels, dark chrome mouldings, rear-wheel steering, and an exclusive paint colour that’s named for a part of Canada.

The Genesis G80 Sport is set apart with a dark chrome grille and unique front bumper with wider and interlaced openings, both of which offer a mesh design that’s exclusive to Sport. The nose has black headlight bezels as well to make sure you know it’s the serious one.

More dark chrome has been added to the side mouldings, which Genesis says boosts the feeling of “athletic luxury.” What has our attention are those 20-inch wheels. Genesis calls the unusual finish dark sputtering, and they have a G-Matrix pattern that makes these wheels look like nothing on any other performance sedan.

At the back is a new colour for the trunk lid moulding as well as a revised rear bumper and a new rear diffuser.

Inside, the Genesis G80 Sport will offer three colours including black with gray or red stitching and Sevilla red. It will have Sport-exclusive dash trim designs including optional aluminum, carbon, or a diamond weave pattern that is new for the G80. Two seat quiltings are offered and this one gets a three-spoke wheel.

We’re intrigued by the new Cavendish Red paint of the photo car. The colour is named for and inspired by the unique red soil and cliffs of the Cavendish region of Prince Edward Island.

Genesis didn’t cover engine options, so expect the 375 hp 3.5L twin-turbo V6, with the 300 hp 2.5L turbo-four also possible. Genesis did mention that the G80 Sport would offer rear-wheel steering to enhance driving stability.

The full launch of the car is expected this quarter, so stay tuned for all of the juicy details.
