Genesis Unveils the 2023 Electrified GV70

Genesis is once again stepping on the electrification gas pedal with the unveiling of its third pure electric model, the 2023 Electrified GV70. The new model, based on the compact crossover, essentially takes the skeleton of the utility vehicle, but swaps the combustion engine for a pair of electric motors of 160 kW each.

The result is a total of 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. And for those of you wondering if the “Boost” function is still on the menu, it is! When the button is pressed, the vehicle receives a 10-second injection of power (483 hp).

Genesis once again uses a 77.4 kWh battery that can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes with a 350 kW fast charging station.

The new model also features one-pedal driving – or “I-Pedal” as brand strategists like to call it – as well as five levels of brake energy recovery via the two paddles behind the steering wheel, features that are becoming increasingly popular with electric motorists.

On the outside, the new Electrified GV70 retains its attractive, athletic crossover silhouette, though regulars will have noticed the G-Matrix grille up front, a design already used on the electric version of the G80. Note also that the charging port is located right on the plastic panel that serves as the grille.

On the outside, the new model is also distinguished by its front and rear skid plates, while the rear bumper is unique to the electric model. As for the 20-inch wheels, they are only available on this electric version, the wheels that are wrapped by Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires, the disc brake calipers are painted white. As is often the case with electric versions, the aerodynamic coefficient of the Electrified GV70 is improved to 0.29, thanks to the improvements made to the body, the wheels and even the flat underside of the body.

The interior has the same feel as the gas model, but with an “environmental” twist, including the use of suede fabrics made from yarns from recycled plastic bottles and unused netting for the headliner, pillars and sun visors.

In Canada, the division will stick to one trim level, like the G80 sedan, the Prestige level featuring Nappa leather seats, a 14-way power driver’s seat with four power adjustments and even the ability to massage its driver. Not surprisingly, both front-row seats are heated and ventilated. There’s also a 360-degree surround view monitor with remote smart parking assist, a heated steering wheel, a 15-speaker Lexicon audio system, a heads-up display, a panoramic roof, a wireless charging tray, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces, and even heated second-row seats.

Genesis hasn’t disclosed the official range of the 2023 Electrified GV70 in Canada, but expect about 380 km, if you factor in the GV60’s possible range of 399 km in its most fuel-efficient livery. We don’t know the price of the only model that will be made available on this side of the border, but the Electrified G80 sedan starts at $105,000.
