GM Adding 2027 Chevrolet Sonic Crossover to South America Offering

2027 Sonic crossover available in Brazil first, crossing South American country borders soon thereafter.

  • GM confirms 2027 Sonic crossover launch in Argentina during H2 2026.

  • Brazil remains the production hub and lead market for the new model.

  • Expansion to include Mercosur and selected Pacific Cluster countries.

General Motors will widen the availability of the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Sonic crossover to several South American countries beyond Brazil, where the model is being manufactured and initially launched.

Canada will go without the Sonic Crossover as both the compact Trax ($30,033 (up $2,200 from 2025)) and Trailblazer ($31,833 (up $800 from 2025) are vying for your attention.

The rollout is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. Brazil will serve as the manufacturing hub and primary market for the model, which is expected to become one of GM Brazil’s most exported vehicles.

The first phase of expansion will target countries within Mercosur, the region’s main trade bloc that includes Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. During a launch event for the new “This is Chevrolet” campaign in Argentina, GM officially confirmed that the Sonic crossover will join the Argentine product lineup later this year.

Additional markets in South America will follow as part of GM’s Pacific Cluster strategy. Countries under consideration include Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, although final decisions on market availability have not yet been announced.

The 2027 Sonic crossover is positioned in the emerging category of entry-level hatchback-based crossovers. This segment has shown growing consumer interest in Brazil and is expected to present additional market opportunities across the continent.

The model will be officially revealed in Brazil in the coming weeks as part of GM’s early-year product launches.
