Is GM Planning On The Return Of The Envoy?

A new GMC Envoy would likely slot itself between the compact Terrain and larger Acadia and be based on the new Chevy Blazer.

You all might remember the GMC Envoy as one of the GM midsize SUV triplets which included the Buick Rainer and Chevrolet Trailblazer. These three trucks disappeared ten years ago but it looks like at least one of them may make a comeback.

General Motors just recently re-trademarked the name “Envoy” which is applicable to “motor vehicles, namely, sport utility vehicles, engines therefor and structural parts thereof.” We’re guessing that GM will rebadge the new Chevy Blazer into the Envoy.

The Blazer itself slots between the Equinox and the Traverse. Should the Envoy be a rebranded Blazer, that would make nearly the same size as the current GMC Acadia, which is roughly 10 inches (25.4 cm) shorter than the Traverse.

Either way, there’s plenty of room for another SUV is GMC’s lineup. Should it come, expect it to sport a luxurious and rugged aura much like the Acadia and Terrain.
