The recall is for Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs.
The affected model years are from 2014 and 2015.
Exactly 681,509 GM SUVs are affected by this recall. The extremely popular Chevrolet Equinox and its twin, the GMC Terrain, may both be fitted with front wipers that may stop working without warning.
The affected model years for both SUVs are limited to 2014 and 2015. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) recall report, the ball joints in the wiper modules may separate due to rust and corrosion accumulated over time. Should a separation occur, the wipers will become inoperative. Interestingly, back in 2016, more than 365,000 2013 model year SUVs were recalled for the exact same issue.
So far, no accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported. The issue came to light due to an extremely high number of warranty claims and complaints.
Owners of 2014-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs will begin receiving notices about the recall starting May 2nd according to CNBC. The fix is simple as damaged wiper modules will be replaced by new ones which feature an improved design.
