Back in April, GM confirmed that an electric Chevrolet Silverado was coming.
The timeline is unclear however we know the GMC Hummer EV pickup is coming next year.
The Hummer and electric GMC pickup should be built alongside each other.
It would almost seem unwise to trade in a three-year-old pickup today for another petrol- or diesel-powered when, within only about two years, the segment will hold at least a half-dozen electric models. Among them will be a GMC-badged pickup and it will be offered alongside the upcoming GMC Hummer EV.
The fact that Chevrolet announced last April that it will soon offer an electric version of its popular Silverado full-size pickup was more than a hint that GMC was to get its own as well. Duncan Aldred, vice president of global Buick and GMC, as reported by Automotive News, said that such a vehicle was on its way. He would not confirm whether or not it would be called Sierra, however.
The electric Silverado will be assembled at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit, the same plant that will build the GMC Hummer EV trucks. It seems logical that the yet-to-be-named GMC electric truck will also come down this assembly line.
By 2023, the electric Chevrolet Silverado and GMC truck will join the GMC Hummer, Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck.
