Hankook Unveils iON HT Tire for Electric Light-Duty Trucks and SUVs

New iON HT tire extends Hankook’s EV lineup with features for electric trucks and SUVs.

  • Hankook’s iON HT is a highway-terrain tire designed for electric light-duty trucks and SUVs.

  • iON HT offers low rolling resistance, XL load support, and an 80,000-mile treadwear warranty.

  • The tire will be sold in August in sizes from 18 to 22 inches for EV applications.

Hankook Tire has introduced the iON HT, its first highway-terrain tire engineered specifically for electric light-duty trucks and full-size SUVs. It joins its iON sub-brand of tires designed specifically for heavy high-torque EVs.

The HT was created to address the unique demands of electric trucks and SUVs as it carries an XL load designation to support heavier battery weights and regular cargo loads. It offers ultra-low rolling resistance aimed at improving EV range, along with an 80,000-mile (approximately 128,700-km) limited treadwear warranty.

The tire incorporates several technologies intended to optimize performance for electric vehicles. Roll Lite Compound and Opti Cure Technology help lower internal friction and optimize curing temperature, which contributes to reduced rolling resistance and improved battery efficiency. Hankook also uses ProDurable Compound and Opti Tread Technology to disperse road pressure evenly, extending tread life.

For traction and durability, the iON HT features 3D-Embossed Sipe and flared shoulder grooves that aid water evacuation, alongside an aggressive shoulder block design and iON Clad construction to guard against external impacts.

The iON HT expands Hankook’s dedicated EV iON product line, which already includes all-season, summer, and winter tires. We are currently evaluating a set of iON evo AS SUV tires on a new 2025 Kia EV9. We expect to report on how the tires are performing. For the moment, so far, so good.

The iON HT tire will be available starting in August across five initial sizes, ranging from 18 to 22 inches. It will carry UTQG ratings of 900/A/A and speed ratings of T or H.
