HEMI V8 Expected to Return to Ram 1500 by 2025

Ram’s 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI V8 engines are reportedly set to return to the 1500 lineup by mid-2025.

  • Reports suggest Stellantis will reintroduce the 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI V8s to the Ram 1500 in 2025.

  • The Ram 1500 TRX may return with increased power, though details on its engine remain unknown.

  • Ram 2500 and 3500 are expected to gain new trims, while Power Wagon may offer a diesel option.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Ram 1500 will reportedly regain its 5.7-litre and 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine options. The engines are expected to be available around mid-2025, reversing Stellantis’ earlier decision to phase them out in favour of a twin-turbo inline-six-cylinder.

The report first surfaced via an email from a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealer employee, who claimed to have attended a corporate meeting where executives discussed upcoming products.

Stellantis initially discontinued the HEMI V8s due to production constraints and emission regulations. CEO Tim Kuniskis, who returned to lead the brand in December 2024, reportedly expressed a desire to bring the engines back but acknowledged the need to address regulatory and supply chain issues.

The dealer email also suggested the high-performance Ram 1500 TRX will return with even greater power and torque than its previous iteration. The last TRX model featured a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 generating 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. However, details on the powertrain for the potential new TRX remain undisclosed.

Additional updates are reportedly coming to the Ram 2500 and 3500 lineups. The dealer email mentions a new Night Edition and Warlock model arriving within a year. The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is also expected to gain a six-cylinder Cummins turbodiesel option, producing 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This would complement the long-standing sole-offering 392 CU 6.4-litre HEMI V8, which delivers 405 hp and 429 lb-ft. The addition of a diesel option could make the Power Wagon a stronger competitor to the Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and GMC Sierra HD AT4X.

Stellantis has not provided official confirmation on these product updates.
