Apparently, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is responsible for the leak.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to the first new ID. family member to launch in North America.
Pictures are of both the ID.4 X and the ID.4 Crozz.
This is our first complete and uncamouflaged look at the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4. To be honest, the final product is exactly as we had imagined it. That is not to say that we are disappointed – far from it in fact. The images were actually leaked by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as automakers are required to submit photos of their products before their actual reveal.
The multitude of images of the Volkswagen ID.4, including that of the original ID.Crozz concept, could not have led anywhere else than where we are now. Volkswagen has done a poor job of leaving us to our imagination when it came to design, and the vehicle’s name. The one surprise however is that the “Crozz” name is featured on the white example.
Much like all of Volkswagen’s vehicles, they sport a distinct style and this applies to the ID.4. Throughout, we see styling cues from the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.5 (Space Vizzion), and others. While the white one is a “Crozz”, the grey one is an “X”. Both are identically sized save for height as the “X” has more ground clearance and overall length due to the “X” having different bumpers.
This Volkswagen ID.4, assembled on VW’s MEB platform, will be built by the FAW-Volkswagen in China. Like the ID.3, it will be launched in 2020 with a rear-mounted 201 horsepower motor at first. An all-wheel-drive version, or dual-motor, of the ID.4, will be added to the lineup according to Volkswagen, at a later date. Ranges will vary and reach up to 500 km (NEDC).
