Honda has just unveiled the updates coming to the TrailSport version of its Passport SUV for 2027. Unsurprisingly, the focus is squarely on off-road capability, with a fully reworked suspension, more ground clearance, and an even tougher stance. The first units should reach Canadian dealerships later this fall.
Ground clearance climbs to 245 mm, a 35 mm increase over the current model
Nearly 70% of the major suspension components have been redesigned
The TrailWatch camera system and heated steering wheel are now standard across all TrailSport trims
A Reworked Suspension
Rather than simply lifting the suspension, Honda‘s engineers reworked the TrailSport’s entire chassis geometry. They redesigned the springs, dampers, control arms, and stabilizer bars, along with the rear driveshafts and front subframe. In total, 28 suspension- and chassis-related parts are either new or modified.
The payoff comes in the form of approach and departure angles of 25 degrees each, plus a breakover angle of 23 degrees, figures that top rivals like the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium, the Subaru Outback Wilderness, and the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch match.
Despite this bump in capability, Honda says the on-road driving experience gets better too, thanks to retuned steering.
A More Rugged Look
Visually, the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport picks up more pronounced fender flares, a redesigned front bumper, and amber lights built into the hood, a nod to the model’s signature amber daytime running lights. The already-popular Blackout package gets even more aggressive, with new black bumpers matched to 18-inch wheels.
A new colour, Smoke Blue Pearl, joins the Touring trim.
The Honda Passport TrailSport continues to be built exclusively at Honda’s plant in Lincoln, Alabama, which also produces the 3.5-litre V6 that powers it. Since this generation, the fourth, debuted last year, the Passport has racked up sales record after sales record, and it looks like Honda intends to keep that pace going this year.
The changes made to the TrailSport variant, aimed squarely at enthusiasts, should help the model keep gaining ground.
