Honda E Electric Vehicle Price at $48,650 Canadian

Pricing for the Honda E electric vehicle was announced for Europe at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In Germany, the Honda E will start at 33,470 euros, which is equivalent to $48,650 in Canadian dollars. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to bring the retro-cool hot EV hatch to Canada. Sorry for the click bait.

Still, pricing for the Honda E puts it directly in front of another hot new electric vehicle, the Volkswagen ID.3 which was unveiled at the same auto show yesterday. Volkswagen has said the ID.3 will retail for under 30,000 euros and will offer between 375 kilometres and 491 kilometres of range. The Honda E is expected to offer roughly 137 miles of range, or 217 kilometres. That’s where things get a bit tricky for Honda and its new EV.

2019 Frankfurt Motor Show

The design of the Honda E is stunning and has been unanimously praised. The problem is that it has less than half of the range of some big name electric vehicles currently offered on the market. If Honda did bring the E to Canada, it would have to significantly lower the price to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Kona EV, Nissan LEAF, Tesla Model 3, Kia Niro EV, or Kia Soul EV. All can be had at less than $50,000 and offer at least double the range.

  1. in Europe, advertised prices includes VAT (usually between 15% and 20%) In canada they don’t so you need to subtract about 20% when I do that, I get 28K$C which is quite reasonable.
