Civic Type R sales to end in Europe by 2026 due to regulatory changes.
40-unit Ultimate Edition features carbon trim, custom lighting, and commemorative accessories.
Type R continues globally, with North American markets offering Civic Type R and Integra Type S.
Honda is marking the end of Civic Type R sales in Europe with the release of a limited-run ‘Ultimate Edition’ model. Only 40 units are available across the region, ahead of the model’s official withdrawal from the European market in 2026.

The special edition Civic Type R is draped in appropriate Championship White, accented by red decals along the bonnet and sides, a painted black roof, and carbon fibre elements including the rear wing spoiler and door sill garnish. Inside, the carbon theme continues with trim on the centre console, while added illumination highlights the footwell, cup holder, door lining, and other areas. A Type R logo projector activates upon opening the front doors.
A commemorative gift box accompanies each vehicle. Owners receive a numbered emblem corresponding to their unit (1 to 40), a carbon key ring, custom floor mats, and a branded car cover.
Honda has not confirmed detailed technical changes to the powertrain but noted that the Ultimate Edition represents a tribute to nearly three decades of the Type R in Europe. According to Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product at Honda Motor Europe, the brand’s model lineup is adapting to comply with evolving European legislation.

The Civic Type R debuted in Japan in 1997 and later expanded to global markets, gaining a reputation for front-wheel-drive performance. It has set lap records at circuits including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Hungaroring, and Silverstone. The model has also played a prominent role in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), earning driver and team titles in production-based racing formats.
While the Type R will exit the European market, Honda has confirmed that the model will remain available in other regions. The United States and Canada will continue to offer both the Civic Type R and the Acura Integra Type S, however, it’s unclear for how long. In Europe, Honda plans to introduce new models such as the hybrid Prelude to align with regional environmental policies.
