Prelude’s hybrid-electric system delivers 200 hp and 232 lb.-ft. torque via dual electric motors.
Honda S+ Shift debuts with simulated gear changes, rev-matching, and enhanced engine sound.
Standard Civic Type R hardware includes adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, and dual-axis suspension.
Honda has finally shared numerous new details on the 2026 Prelude for the Canadian market. We already knew it was coming back as a hybrid-electric sports coupe built on high-performance Civic Type R chassis components.

The new Prelude becomes the first Honda model to combine the brand’s two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain with the Civic Type R’s chassis hardware. The system pairs a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle direct-injection gasoline engine with two electric motors to produce a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. of torque. Power is delivered through a direct-drive system with the new Honda S+ Shift feature, which mimics gear changes and provides virtual rev-matched downshifts for enhanced driver engagement.
Chassis features from the Civic Type R include the dual-axis strut front suspension, adaptive dampers tuned specifically for the Prelude, and four-piston Brembo front calipers finished in a Prelude-specific blue. Selectable drive modes—Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual—adjust steering, damping, engine sound, and powertrain response.

These specifications look like the basis for a next-generation Civic Type R. Strap a turbocharger to the hybridized 4-banger for 325+hp and equal or more torque, bolt on a manual gearbox, and there you have it…
Designed in Japan, the Prelude features aerodynamic enhancements such as a front under-spoiler and flat liftgate edge to optimize downforce. Exterior styling includes flush door handles, a wide stance, and a double-bubble roof. Three exterior colours will be available in Canada: Winter Frost Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, and Rally Red. The U.S. is privy to Boost Blue and Meteorite Gray Metallic.

Inside, the coupe offers 2+2 seating and standard features including leather-trimmed sport seats with houndstooth pattern, a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, and a 9-inch HD touchscreen with Google built-in. Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a wireless phone charger, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Standard safety features include the full Honda Sensing suite, as well as Honda’s Post-Collision Braking system.

The Prelude joins the CR-V, Accord, and Civic in Honda Canada’s growing hybrid-electric lineup, which now accounts for approximately 40% of the company’s total sales. Honda Canada anticipates that hybrid models will account for over 60% of future sales.
The 2026 Prelude will be sold in Canada in one fully equipped trim level. It is scheduled to arrive at Canadian dealerships in late 2025.
