The Honda Element was a one-of-a-kind model in Honda’s history. Designed to appeal to an older crowd, it was embraced by younger buyers. Sold between 2003 and 2011, it proved popular enough that you’d spot one just about everywhere. Well, according to a report by Automotive News, Honda may be looking to bring it back. Don’t call your dealer just yet, though: we’re talking about a 2029 return, possibly as a 2030 model.
The new Honda Element would slot between the HR-V and CR-V in Honda’s lineup.
It would feature a hybrid powertrain and be assembled at a plant in Ohio.
Honda is reportedly hoping to sell around 100,000 units in its first full year on sale.
In keeping with the times and Honda’s current direction, the new Element would adopt a hybrid powertrain and be built at an Ohio plant, with production slated to begin in 2029. The company believes it could move around 100,000 units in its first full year on the market.
A rival to the Ford Bronco Sport
As for its place in the lineup, the Element would slot in between the HR-V and the CR-V. Price-wise, the model would be in direct competition with the Ford Bronco Sport. It’s safe to assume the Element would retain a boxy, rugged look, with some off-road capability built in.

That kind of offering is clearly in vogue across the industry, with countless models now proposing enhanced trail-ready credentials. It would stand to reason, then, that a TrailSport version of the Element would find its way into the lineup. Pure speculation, but it would make sense.
Honda declined to confirm any of this. A company spokesperson did note, however, that the Element has maintained a loyal following even after being discontinued. Naturally, Honda made clear it doesn’t comment on future product plans.
A familiar refrain, one that leaves us, of course, to speculate and speak in hypotheticals.
One thing’s for sure: if the Element were to make a comeback, it could be a real success story, as long as it stays just as distinctive and different as the original.
