New model looks like nothing else in the brand’s stable
Angular styling could be a complete shift for Honda
Honda’s electric vehicle plans seem to be making more directional changes than a pinball. We’ll get to see the latest at CES next month when the brand unveils what it calls an “all-new Global Honda electric vehicle series.”
The new model makes its debut at CES 2024 in Las Vegas on January 9. The teaser image shows something much more angular than any Honda we’ve seen before, at least since the 1980s.
It’s not even clear from the image what body style the new EV could be. The vehicle shown has a steep enough front that it could be a crossover or even a minivan, though it’s not likely a coupe.
Honda just showed off an electric coupe, the Prelude, at the Tokyo auto show. The sporty coupe is an electric concept that we expect to see in production soon. That’s generally how Honda operates, it shows a concept and then we see the exact same vehicle in production in a couple of years. If they can do that with something based on this teaser, it will be seriously impressive.
The company’s first dedicated EV will be the Prologue, which is developed using GM’s Ultium battery tech and should reach dealers at the start of 2024.
In the announcement, Honda restated its goal to put 30 new EVS on the market by 2030 and to hit 100 percent zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040 in North America.
