Revised aerodynamics improve engine cooling while deeper front splitter generates additional downforce.
Heated front seats, Google built-in and two USB-C ports become standard equipment.
Power still comes from the turbocharged 2.0L, good for 315 hp.
Honda is updating the Civic Type R for 2027 with extra aerodynamic, chassis, technology and interior changes. The goal is to improve both track performance and daily usability. The revised hot hatch will reach North American dealerships soon, coinciding with the Type R’s 30th anniversary globally and 10th anniversary in North America.

The redesigned nose incorporates a larger grille opening to reduce airflow turbulence and provide additional cooling during sustained high-performance driving. Honda has also fitted a deeper front splitter to generate more downforce. Meteorite Gray Metallic joins the available colour palette alongside Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White. Stunning Rally Red will be dropped, unfortunately.
Chassis revisions focus on the Type R’s most aggressive drive setting. Honda recalibrated the adaptive dampers in +R mode to limit bouncing and harsh impacts while maintaining better road contact. A spring added to the brake-pedal linkage reduces unwanted movement, delivering a more instantaneous response.
The turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine still produces 315 healthy hp. It remains paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Honda continues to manufacture the K20C engine at its Anna, Ohio, facility using American and globally sourced components. A redesigned engine cover references earlier Japanese-market Type R models.
Interior changes include heated front sport seats for the first time, with three temperature settings. The red suede-like upholstery receives revised perforations and contrasting black stripes. Ultrasuede now covers sections of the dashboard and front doors.

Honda has also introduced a diamond-pattern dashboard insert, dark grey finishes for the aluminum shift knob, console trim and door handles, plus black climate-control and ventilation knobs. An auto-dimming rearview mirror and two centre-console USB-C ports join the standard-equipment list.
Google built-in makes its Type R debut for 2027, enabling access to Google Maps, Google Play and the Gemini conversational assistant. Amazon Alexa remains integrated. Honda has also revised its driver-assistance systems.
Honda U.S. lists the 2027 Civic Type R at US$48,695 before destination charges. Canadian pricing starts at CDN$58,307 with fees, a $1,300 increase over the 2026 model year, if you can find one.
