One of the Japanese brand’s five utility vehicles, the 2025 Honda CR-V represents the third model year with the nameplate’s sixth generation.
The CR-V is Honda’s best-selling vehicle in Canada, by a wide margin, in addition to being the second best-selling utility vehicle in the country. The CR-V is also built in Canada.
2025 Honda CR-V Changes and Updates
There are no major changes for the CR-V this year. However, the base LX-B trim level becomes the LX as the latter adds the blind-spot monitoring system that wasn’t part of the standard feature list last year. The non-hybrid EX-L has been retired in Canada.
2025 Honda CR-V Trim Levels and Pricing
The CR-V lineup consists of the LX 2WD, LX, Sport, EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid.
The three more affordable variants are equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine that develops 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission. As mentioned above, only the LX 2WD offers a front-wheel drivetrain, while the rest include AWD.
The EX-L and Touring get a hybrid system that includes a naturally aspirated, Atkinson-cycle 2.0L four-cylinder engine, an electric propulsion motor, a motor-generator and a 1.06 kWh battery pack. Combined output is rated at 204 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.

What the 2025 Honda CR-V Does Well
- On paper, the CR-V is one of the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid models in the compact crossover segment. The CR-V Hybrid’s fuel consumption is a little higher than those of the Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-50 and Toyota RAV4, a little lower than those of the Hyundai Tucson and Subaru Forester.
- There’s plenty of interior room for all passengers, and the expansive window surface allows for good outward visibility. With a maximum volume of 2,166 litres (2,030 in the EX-L and Touring), the CR-V’s cargo area is second only to that of the Mitsubishi Outlander.
- The CR-V also shines for the user-friendliness of its infotainment system. A seven-inch touchscreen is found in the LX and Sport trims, while a nine-inch display equips the EX-L and Touring. For those who prefer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it’s standard across the board, with wireless connectivity on EX-L and Touring.
- A full suite of active safety features comes standard, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and auto high beams. The only feature missing, that’s exclusive to the Touring trim, is low-speed braking control.
What the 2025 Honda CR-V Doesn’t Do Well
- While the gas-only variants are fairly affordable, the hybrids cost at least $50K once we factor in freight and delivery charges as well as dealer fees. The hybrid variants are the most expensive in its class, and their prices match those of some rivals equipped with plug-in hybrid powertrains.
- The CR-V comes standard with many safety features, but comfort and convenience items aren’t plentiful. We’re treated with a urethane steering wheel, a sound system with only four speakers, no rear-seat USB ports, no power adjustments for the front seats, and steel wheels and covers.
- Many rivals benefit from better cabin sound insulation than the CR-V’s. It’s not bad, but it could be better.
- With a tow capacity of 680 kilograms or 1,500 pounds for the LX and Sport trims, and a lowly 454 kg or 1,000 pounds with the EX-L and Touring, the CR-V isn’t a good choice for hauling a boat or a camper.
2025 Honda CR-V Competition
The CR-V competes with the Buick Envision, the Chevrolet Equinox, the Chevrolet Equinox EV, the Ford Bronco Sport, the Ford Escape, the GMC Terrain, the Hyundai Tucson, the Jeep Compass, the Kia Sportage, the Mazda CX-5, the Mazda CX-50, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the Mitsubishi Outlander, the Nissan Rogue, the Subaru Forester, the Toyota RAV4 and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
