Toyota has been actively teasing the GR Corolla.
The GR Corolla is a near 300-horsepower hot hatch we all want.
Rumours that Toyota was going to build and sell a GR Corolla go back roughly three years. They began more or less around the time the superb GR Yaris launched for many markets, other than North America of course. For the last few months, Toyota’s been teasing the GR Corolla and now it looks as though we have proof it’s on the way.
The interest in this car is palpable. As we inch ever closer to the end of the internal combustion engine, many automakers are having one last go at go-fast petrol burners. We’ve got a New Golf GTI and Golf R, a new WRX with an STI on the way, an anticipated new Civic Type R (and maybe an Integra Type S…), and now, based on The Drive, the GR Corolla is on the way.
The information comes from a video that showed documents stipulating that the GR Corolla will go on sale this October.
2022 will be a good year for hot compact car enthusiasts and the GR Corolla will hit all the marks. It is expected to get a tuned version of the GR Yaris’ turbocharged 1.6-litre 3-cylinder engine that produces as much as 296 horsepower.
