The Golf GTI TCR is like a GTI+.
It bridges the gap between the GTI and Golf R.
Power is said to be just shy of 300 horsepower.
We were at the reveal event of the last-generation MK7 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in Austria just over two years ago. At the time, its 286-horsepower output made it the most powerful GTI ever made. If rumours are true, the next GTI TCR will be even more powerful.
The video, posted by Automotive Mike on YouTube, shows the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR with coloured tape over the badges but this clearly is not enough to confuse anyone. The GTI TCR’s massive rear spoiler is an absolute dead giveaway. Power comes from the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that we all know and appreciate. Like the GTI, the TCR is FWD only and unlike the GTI, the TCR is offered only with the DSG transmission – at the very least, this was the case for the MK7 TCR.
The GTI TCR should also be privy to a number of go-fast bits including high-performance brakes, a revised chassis, and hopefully, the Akrapovic exhaust system will make a comeback.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR should be officially in the very near future. The real good news accompanying this reveal “should” be that Volkswagen of America will see to it that it will be available in Canada and the US. We doubt this will be the case though…
