We’re always ready for more digital Hot Wheels
No gameplay yet, but trailer has us anxious
A new Hot Wheels game has just been announced, and if you don’t have room in your house for that dream track, then this might be the best thing since the Hot Wheels expansion pack came to Forza Horizon 3 a few years back. If the actual game looks anything like the trailer, expect to lose plenty of hours to this one.
Hot Wheels Unleashed was just announced as a partnership between Mattel and gaming studio Milestone. The studio has focused on racing games since 1994, with entries including WRC FIA World Championship 1-4, the MotoGP series, and others.
Mattel says that this game will let player drift, boost, jump, and drive on the brand’s iconic orange plastic tracks with single player and multiplayer races. The favourite of older siblings everywhere: split-screen mode for couch multiplayer action.
“Hot Wheels is all about encouraging the challenger spirit and Hot Wheels Unleashed brings that mission to life for gamers of all ages. Milestone’s expertise in racing game development has enabled us to transform the Hot Wheels brand into a compelling console and PC gaming experience for both current Hot Wheels fans and gamers who may be rediscovering the iconic brand,” said Mattel Head of Digital Gaming Andrew Chan.
The announcement says the game will have loads of Hot Wheels cars with customisation, as well as a track editor that will let players share their creations with the online community. Interestingly, the two said there would be “a variety of different versions” of the game globally.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is set to launch September 30th on PlayStation4 and 5, Xbox One, Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
