For years, there’s been speculation about the introduction of these electrified powertrains, especially after both SUVs underwent a refresh in the 2022 model year. Interestingly, the Navigator did not receive a hybrid version during its last refresh, with the reason being consumers’ satisfaction with its existing twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost.

However, the release of certain details from the UAW’s recent tentative contract with Ford gives strong indications about the hybrid future of these SUVs. As part of Ford’s massive $8.1 billion investment in ongoing and upcoming products, a substantial $750 million is designated for the Kentucky Truck Plant. This plant is responsible for the manufacturing of the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Super Duty. The document notably mentions the continuation of these models and the introduction of “HEV” – hybrid electric vehicle – versions for both the Navigator and Expedition.
While the specifics of the hybrid powertrain remain undisclosed, there’s speculation that Ford might utilize its existing twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 PowerBoost. This engine, initially introduced in the 2021 Ford F-150, has become a favorite among consumers, so much so that Ford plans to boost its production. Given that both SUVs share the F-150’s platform, this speculation seems plausible.

The upcoming hybrid models for the Expedition and Navigator are projected to be unveiled with the 2025 model year updates. These updates are said to feature exterior styling reminiscent of the Range Rover for the Expedition, and Nautilus-inspired designs for the Navigator, coupled with revamped interiors and advanced display features, particularly for Lincoln’s star SUV.
