Small cars take another hit as the best-selling Hyundai Accent is retiring
The car was the most popular subcompact vehicle from 2009 to 2018
Another small car bites the dust as the Hyundai Accent will be canned in Canada after 2020. Hyundai Canada announced the news today.
The Accent is currently in its 5th generation and had been introduced in 1994. It had quite a run and remained a best-seller all the way to the end. From 2009 to 2018 it was the best-selling small car in Canada.
The Hyundai Accent joins the Toyota Yaris, the Chevrolet Sonic, and the Honda Fit in a small car segment that has been decimated in recent months. Only the Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa, Chevrolet Spark, and Kia Rio remain as consumers flock to small utility vehicles like the Hyundai Venue.
According to Don Romano, CEO of Hyundai Canada, the aforementioned Venue and the Kona will serve buyers interested in small, efficient vehicles with space.
“The successful launches of the Hyundai Venue and the Kona provide great opportunities to offer the best vehicles in the segment to our clients who are looking for entry-level transportation while still getting the features they want”, Romano said in a statement.
The Hyundai Accent will have left its mark in Quebec most notably, its strongest market by far.
