Downhill racer will go on sale in Europe
Hyundai is getting on its soap box, but this time it’s not to proclaim to the world, it is to go racing. it’s the Hyundai Soapbox and the concept car is about to go on sale to customers in Europe who want to go downhill in a hurry.
Soapbox car racing was never that big in Canada, but the sport is big in Europe and massive in the US. Gravity-powered cars, originally actual boxes that came full of soap, race to the bottom of a course to see who can arrive at the finish first. While the old cars were just boxes, modern cars are shockingly high-tech and Hyundai’s, based on the 45 Concept car’s styling, is one of those.
While the automaker is just giving us a first look at the Soapbox, and yes, this is a teaser for a kids toy, so they aren’t talking tech, but just look at that long, low, sharp body with the wheels hung out the back. The lines stretching across the car’s sides, just visible in front of the Hyundai H in the photos, is the company’s callout to the 45 Concept. We’re not sure if we see it.
And yes, Hyundai is planning to actually build soapbox cars, making them available to customers in Europe (though with international shipping we’re sure you’ll be able to get them anywhere). Their full design will be revealed soon, and we expect pricing of the car to come with it. Then maybe a turbocharged N version?
