Hyundai Teases More Extreme Ioniq 5 N For Tokyo Motor Salon

Quicker Ioniq?

  • Is this the road version of the Ioniq cup car?

  • NPX1 gets big body kit

Hyundai is about to show off an even hotter version of the Ioniq 5 N. It’s called the NPX1, and the company posted a teaser video today to show it off ahead of the full debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The teaser video starts with a silhouette that is clearly a whole lot more than the standard Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. Just look at that big rear wing hanging off the rear. The next cut jumps to carbon fibre mirror caps.

After that, things get really interesting. The NPX1 has a massive front splitter and an equally large rear diffuser. The teaser shows what looks like extra brake venting, and there are also brake calipers painted in the company’s Performance Blue signature hue.

The tires are Pirelli P Zero PZ4 max-performance rubber. They’re mounted on N Performance wheels that look to have at least a carbon fibre lip, if not the full barrel.

It looks like the Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car, a racing car developed for a one-make race series. But this one looks like a road car, not a track-only special.

We’ll have to wait and see, but at least it won’t be for long. The Hyundai NPX1 will be fully revealed tomorrow at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
