Hyundai will distribute free NACS adapters to eligible EV owners in Q1 2025 through MyHyundai.
Adapters enable access to over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers and 38,000+ DC fast chargers in total.
Future models, including the 2025 IONIQ 5, will feature built-in NACS ports for easier charging.
Hyundai will provide eligible electric vehicle (EV) owners in the United States with free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters starting in the first quarter of 2025. The adapters allow Hyundai EVs to access over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations and more than 38,000 NACS and Combined Charging System (CCS) fast chargers nationwide.
Owners of Hyundai EVs purchased or leased by January 31, 2025, can request a complimentary adapter through the MyHyundai owner portal, including shipping. Eligible vehicles include the 2024 and earlier KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6, as well as the 2025 IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and KONA Electric.
Kia to Offer NACS Adapters for Expanded EV Charging Access in 2025
The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first non-Tesla EV to feature a factory-installed NACS charging port, eliminating the need for adapters. Future Hyundai models, such as the upcoming IONIQ 9, will also integrate NACS ports to improve compatibility with expanding fast-charging networks.
Hyundai Motor North America’s senior vice president, Olabisi Boyle, stated that the adapters aim to make DC fast charging more accessible for existing owners while improving the charging experience for future EV buyers. Details about the program’s terms, conditions, and pricing for additional adapters will be provided in early 2025.
Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand will also participate in the program, with more information expected to be released next year.
