80% US domestic production goal despite Georgia plant delays
Operating margins adjusted to 6-7% citing tariff impact
$3.6 billion CAD investment proceeds after operational disruptions
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its most ambitious growth strategy at the company’s first CEO Investor Day held outside Korea, outlining plans to reach 5.55 million global vehicle sales by 2030 with electrified vehicles comprising 60% of total sales. The comprehensive roadmap includes 3.3 million electrified units annually, expanded hybrid offerings across 18+ models, and breakthrough Extended Range EV technology launching in 2027.
Speaking in New York, CEO José Muñoz positioned Hyundai as uniquely prepared for industry transformation through manufacturing flexibility, technology leadership, and global scale. “In an industry facing unprecedented transformation, Hyundai is uniquely positioned to win through our unmatched combination of compelling products, manufacturing flexibility, technology leadership, outstanding dealer partners and global scale,” Muñoz said.
Electrification Strategy and Regional EV Development
Hyundai’s electrification approach centres on regionally tailored products designed for specific markets. The IONIQ 3 will target European mass-market customers, while India receives the country’s first locally designed EV with localized supply chain integration. China gets the locally produced Elexio SUV and C-segment electric sedan, marking a major commitment to the Chinese market.
The Extended Range EV technology launching in 2027 utilizes high-performance batteries and motors to deliver more than 965 kilometres of range through optimized battery-engine integration. Unlike conventional EREVs, Hyundai’s approach uses in-house high-performance batteries, achieving full EV power performance with less than half the battery capacity.
Key electrification specifications include:
- 18+ hybrid models by 2030, including Genesis hybrid variants from 2026
- All-New Hyundai Palisade Hybrid featuring next-generation TMED-II technology
- High-performance N lineup expanding to 7+ models targeting 100,000 global sales
- All-New IONIQ 6 N introducing three temperature optimization modes

Manufacturing Expansion and Localization Strategy
Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) will reach 500,000 units production capacity by 2028, focusing on hybrid and electric vehicles. The expansion creates 3,000 direct and indirect jobs in Georgia through a USD 2.7 billion (~$3.6 billion CAD) investment over three years, as the company advances its goal to produce more than 80% of vehicles sold in the United States domestically by 2030.
The Georgia operations faced disruptions in early September when federal agents conducted an immigration enforcement action at the battery plant construction site, detaining 475 workers and delaying the facility’s opening by more than two months. The localization strategy gains added significance following these operational challenges, with supply chain content increasing from 60% to 80%.
Globally, the company plans to add 1.2 million production units by 2030, including 250,000 units from the Pune export hub in India and 200,000 units from the dedicated EV plant in Ulsan. The Saudi Arabia plant, beginning operations in Q4 2026, will feature next-generation robotics under the “Saudi Made” initiative with 50,000 units capacity.
Manufacturing excellence extends through Software-Defined Factory implementation, with HMGMA producing 10 hybrid and EV models, while the new Ulsan EV plant manufactures up to 12 EV models through advanced robot-based automation systems.
Battery Technology and Financial Projections
Battery innovation delivers industry-leading improvements by 2027: 30% cost reduction, 15% higher energy density, and 15% shorter charging times. Durability data from over 50,000 IONIQ 5 vehicles shows most units driven more than 402,000 kilometres retain over 90% battery performance.
Hyundai announced a KRW 77.3 trillion ($58 billion CAD) investment plan from 2026 to 2030, including $23 billion CAD for Research and Development, $29 billion CAD for Capital Expenditure, and $6 billion CAD for strategic investments.
The company adjusted its operating profit margin target to 6-7%, citing the impact of recently imposed US tariffs, while raising revenue growth expectations to 5-6%. Hyundai targets sustainable operating profit margins of 7-8% by 2027 and 8-9% by 2030 through improved product mix and enhanced localization strategy.
