Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 win top AJAC’s Green Vehicle awards.
Awards highlight Hyundai’s leadership in the all-electric vehicle transition.
These accolades join a growing list of honours for IONIQ models.
The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has given a twin nod of recognition to Hyundai‘s IONIQ models, the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, marking yet another achievement in the vehicles’ growing list of awards since their market debut. The IONIQ 6 has secured its place as the “2023 Canadian Green Car of the Year”, while its sibling, the IONIQ 5, has been titled the “2023 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year”.
Hyundai Canada, undoubtedly, is basking in this double glory, which was presented during the opening ceremonies of EcoRun, an AJAC’s annual event promoting eco-friendly vehicles. The IONIQ models’ accolades underline Hyundai’s commitment to leading the shift towards an all-electric future. These recognitions are not merely badges of honour, they are a testament to the automaker’s strategy resonating well with automotive experts and customers alike.
The AJAC’s awards, as Hyundai Auto Canada’s CEO, Don Romano explains, are of significant value to the brand. “With our IONIQ models, Hyundai is committed to maintaining a leadership position in the transition towards an all-electric future,” Romano states. Hyundai is poised to share this triumphant news with customers and dealers across Canada, offering further proof of their vehicles’ outstanding quality.
The vehicles earned these awards after AJAC journalists spent hundreds of hours behind the wheel of numerous fuel-efficient and electric vehicles on Canadian roads. All contenders were evaluated considering the Canadian market’s diverse conditions and specific realities. The IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 5 have evidently managed to impress amidst this intensive scrutiny, showcasing Hyundai’s adeptness in delivering advanced, sustainable, and effective transportation solutions.
This recent Canadian double recognition follows the IONIQ 5 winning the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year by AJAC in February, and comes on the heels of multiple international honours. Both models have bagged some of the most prestigious awards in the automotive world, including World Car of the Year, World Electric Car of the Year, and World Design of the Year.
Hyundai’s achievement echoes a key message, as noted by AJAC president Michel Crépault: “In light of the accolades the IONIQ family is garnering while all automakers are working hard on electrification, we have to admit that the Hyundai recipe has ingredients that appeal to many, including the AJAC specialists.”
