Rain Prisk shows us what can happen when a Porsche 911 becomes a wagon or shooting brake.
Could a Porsche 911 wagon or shooting brake ever happen? Well, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen in the automotive industry, but it still very unlikely. Of course, it never hurts to imagine the possibilities.
Enter this rendering by Rain Prisk. A 911 wagon shouldn’t work… It should be horrible, terrible, ugly, and destroyed never to be seen again. And yet, this rendering shows that it wouldn’t be bad at all. As a matter of fact, Porsche would probably sell a ton of them.
Now that the purists have calmed down and gotten used to Panameras, Macans and even accepted the Porsche Cayenne Coupe as incredible money makers, we’re thinking a Porsche 911 wagon could work without driving anyone too crazy. Or not.
In any case, the car we see here will never happen but it’s still nice to see what a Porsche 911 wagon could look like. It could even be called a Porsche 911 Sport Turismo if Porsche wanted to really be cute.
Of course, the 911’s layout and rear-engined conception poses a serious challenge to building a shooting brake. In the design seen here, it’s hard to figure out where the engine goes and where the added cargo capacity is located. Maybe there isn’t an extra trunk back there, but then why make a shooting brake in the first place?
They could move the engine forward, extend the rear and then add a second trunk, a little bit like the Porsche 718. Oh the possibilities…
