This Is the INEOS Grenadier Rebuilt for the British Military

Two UK defence suppliers join the INEOS-led consortium as three militarised Grenadiers head to DVD2026 at UTAC Millbrook.

  • Hobson Industries and TVS Supply Chain Solutions bring Team Grenadier to five members

  • Three militarised Grenadiers (EPV, GPV, MRLV) show at DVD2026, 16 to 17 September

  • Retail Grenadier base: 282 hp BMW inline-six, ladder frame, 800 mm wading depth

The green 4X4 in these photos is an INEOS Grenadier, the same body-on-frame off-roader sold through INEOS dealers in Canada, lined up for a new job. A group of five British companies calling itself Team Grenadier wants the UK Ministry of Defence to buy military versions of it, and on 7 September the group announced two new members along with these images.

What the photos show: an armoured Grenadier and a military pickup

The wagon with the bolted-on panels and small windows is the Enhanced Protection Vehicle, or EPV. The doors are thick slabs on oversized external hinges, the windscreen sits in a heavy frame and a winch is built into the front bumper. The grille, round headlights and hood lettering are straight off the showroom model.

The muddy pickup with the flat deck and roof rack is the Multi-Role Light Vehicle, or MRLV, built on the Grenadier’s double-cab pickup layout with a flat platform where the bed would be. The MRLV is one of nine configurations the consortium says it can build on the same chassis; the line-up photo shows another in fire and rescue livery.

Why a civilian 4X4 works as a military truck

Here’s why a retail 4X4 is in this conversation at all. The Grenadier is built like a pickup truck rather than a modern SUV: a box-section steel ladder frame, up to 3.5 mm thick, runs the length of the vehicle and the body bolts on top. The solid beam axles at both ends come from Carraro, which builds tractor axles for John Deere. For a converter, that means armour, a flat deck or a fire body can go on without redesigning the part that carries the weight. One chassis, nine jobs, is the pitch to the MoD.

The showroom numbers, from INEOS‘s 2026 Canadian specs:

  • 3.0-litre turbocharged BMW inline-six, 282 hp and 332 lb-ft
  • Eight-speed automatic with a two-speed transfer case and lockable centre differential
  • 264 mm of ground clearance and 800 mm wading depth
  • 3,500 kg towing capacity; 871 kg payload for the wagon, 835 kg for the Quartermaster pickup
  • 2,922 mm wheelbase for the wagon, 3,227 mm for the Quartermaster

Those are retail figures, not numbers for the armoured conversions.

Who Team Grenadier is, and what changed this week

INEOS Automotive builds the base vehicle. SMT Defence and NMS UK handle the conversions. The two new members, Hobson Industries and TVS Supply Chain Solutions, cover what happens after the sale: Hobson reconditions and refurbishes fleets, with 40 years supplying defence programmes including the MoD, and TVS manages parts and supply chains for defence organisations.

“Both Hobsons and TVS SCS bring considerable military understanding, commercial best practice, and proven programme delivery to the Team Grenadier consortium,” said Mike Whittington, Chief Commercial Officer at INEOS Automotive.

Where to see them: DVD2026, 16 to 17 September

The vehicles head to DVD2026, a defence equipment show at UTAC Millbrook in Bedfordshire, on 16 and 17 September: the EPV on the NMS UK stand, the MRLV and a third version, the General-Purpose Vehicle (GPV), on the Hobsons stand. Visitors can ride along in the GPV on the show’s off-road course.

Already working for police, fire and the Italian military

This is not the Grenadier’s first uniform. INEOS says the model has more than 36,000 retail customers worldwide, emergency services and border force operations across Europe already run it, and the company cites recent contracts with military organizations, including the Italian Military.
