Ineos Will Build an Electric SUV Starting in 2026

The Ineos Grenadier should get an electric "younger brother" in 2026.

  • This model will be related in appearance but not mechanically to the Grenadier.

  • The company’s first model is a spiritual successor to the classic Land Rover Defender.

  • Few details are known at the moment, but the electric 4×4 should have about 400 kilometres of range.

Ineos, makers of the rugged Grenadier SUV, has announced it will launch a fully electric 4×4 model in 2026.

Few details are known at the moment about this upcoming model, but the company says it will develop a new bespoke platform just for this model.

In addition, we know Ineos is targeting 250 miles (400 kilometres) of range, but this could be a WLTP figure, meaning the real-world range might be lower.

At the moment, the small automaker offers only the Grenadier, an off-roader that is designed and marketed as a spiritual successor to the original Land Rover Defender, which was discontinued back in early 2016.

Compared to it, the new model will be smaller and more focused on city driving, but still rugged enogh to deliver “world-class off-road capabilities” according to Ineos.

In terms of appearance, the company’s CEO says the upcoming EV will look like a “younger brother of the Grenadier”, which means the familiar Land Rover-inspired lines of the current model will likely translate to the EV.

Like the current model, the assembly of this new model will be performed by Magna at its factory in Graz, Austria.

This allows Ineos to market its models without having to build its own factory, hire workers, and manage the production line.

The automaker is not the only one to favour this business model since Fisker is also working with Magna on the production of the Ocean electric SUV.

In addition, the location of Magna’s facility near the Schöckl mountain provides a convenient proving ground for the development of both the Grenadier and the upcoming EV.

While Ineos is still very young as an automaker, it is reportedly already planning a third model, which could be a more luxurious version of the current Grenadier.
