GM removed CarPlay support from new EVs, citing safety and interface transition concerns.
A third-party adapter and Android app can wirelessly restore CarPlay in Android Automotive-based vehicles.
The workaround requires manual setup, but core CarPlay apps function with Bluetooth audio.
A third-party workaround has emerged allowing Apple CarPlay to operate on newer General Motors electric vehicles, following the automaker’s decision to discontinue the feature across its EV lineup in North America.
GM cut support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from most of its new electric models and announced plans to phase out the features in future gasoline-powered vehicles as well. The automaker cited safety concerns related to switching between smartphone-based interfaces and the native infotainment system – something that’s never seemed to be an issue in the past…
In response to upset customer demand, an unofficial solution has surfaced. The workaround requires a CPC200-CCPA adapter, priced at approximately $55 US, and a custom Android app that users must manually compile and install via a developer account. The vehicle’s infotainment system, built on Android Automotive OS, supports the deployment of native Android apps, enabling the integration.
While the solution restores Apple CarPlay wirelessly, audio does not play directly through the dongle. Instead, media audio is routed via Bluetooth. Apps like Waze, Siri, and A Better Route Planner are reportedly functional.

The setup process requires technical knowledge. The open-source app code is hosted on GitHub, but the developer has indicated that they will not provide continued updates or direct support. In other words, most new GM users will still have to live without Apple CarPlay, unfortunately.
However, a compiled version of the app may eventually be published on the Google Play Store, greatly simplifying the installation process.
As of now, the current modification remains the only known method for users seeking to regain Apple CarPlay functionality in affected GM models.
