Infiniti Could Add a QX65 to its Lineup

Infiniti could be working on a coupe-like version of the QX60, according to a trademark filing.

  • This name was filed in a US Patent about a week ago.

  • Since the QX55 is a coupe-like version of the QX50, a QX65 should be a coupe-like version of the QX60.

  • Earlier reports hinted at a two-row vehicle based on the QX60 platform.

A new trademark from Infiniti and its parent company Nissan shows that there might be a new SUV coming to the premium brand in the next few years.

Indeed, the company filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the use of the name “QX65” on a motor vehicle.

Judging by the usual way in which Infiniti names its vehicles, this means this model will be an SUV and likely a coupe-like version of the QX60.

This can be predicted because of the QX50 and QX55 pair, where both models share the same mechanicals and most of their appearance except that the QX50 has a regular SUV roofline and the QX55 has a lower and sleeker design that makes it look more dynamic.

Making coupe-like versions of SUVs is a growing trend in the industry, particularly among premium brands such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

A QX65 should then be very similar to the QX60, which was entirely renewed for 2022 and updated with more tech this year.

The brand hasn’t confirmed anything about this future model, but an earlier report had hinted at a new two-row SUV built on the same platform as the QX60 on the market by 2025.

If the QX65 does have a lower roofline than the QX60, as suspected, it makes sense that there would not be sufficient headroom at the back of the vehicle to install a third row of seats.

Like the QX55, the Infiniti QX65 should use the same powertrain as its close relative, which means it will be powered by a 3.5L V6 engine that makes 295 horsepower and a 9-speed automatic transmission that replaced the CVT unit found in the previous generation of the QX60.

Since the trademark was only filed last week, this model will not be officially confirmed for at least a few months and it will probably not arrive on the market before 2024.
