Infiniti is clearly lacking freshness and variety. To broaden its appeal, the automaker is introducing a “trend-driven” coupe-style version of its most popular model, the QX60. Enter the QX65, an SUV that promises to revive the spirit of the legendary FX.

Over the past few years, Infiniti’s product lineup has steadily shrunk. Sedans and coupes have disappeared, and last year the compact QX50 and QX55 were discontinued, leaving only the QX60 and the full-size QX80. For 2027, Infiniti aims to return to its roots with the introduction of a new midsize SUV based on the QX60, the QX65. As is tradition at Infiniti, a “5” at the end of the nameplate signifies a coupe-style SUV.
2003 Infiniti FX45With the QX65, Infiniti hopes to reconnect with the spirit of one of its most iconic vehicles, the FX from the early 2000s. Although the QX65 is 18 centimetres longer, the styling is clearly inspired. Will it deliver the same level of performance as the FX, especially the V8-powered version? That’s highly uncertain, particularly since it has half the cylinders. The bigger question is whether this will be enough to revive Infiniti.
Infiniti knows how to design
Unsurprisingly, the 2027 QX65 closely resembles the QX65 Monograph Concept revealed at The Quail during Monterey Car Week in 2025. Interestingly, the concept was also showcased at the Montreal and Toronto Auto Shows this year.

The connection to the QX60 is immediately recognizable, though the two models share only a few body components. This is especially evident in the split lighting signature, a major trend in today’s automotive design. The daytime running lights and visual signature use piano key-style LED elements, similar to the QX80. On the concept, these piano keys extended into the grille, but sadly this detail did not make it to production.

Once again, the grille design is inspired by Japanese bamboo forests. On the Sport and Autograph trims, the look becomes more dynamic, as they say…like a forest in a windstorm.
The profil set the tone
The profile is where the QX65 truly stands out. The coupe-like silhouette features a noticeably lower and more flowing roofline. On the Autograph trim, the effect is enhanced with a black-painted roof and a thin chrome strip outlining the upper window frame, which varies depending on the trim. As for wheels, Luxe and Sport models ride on 20-inch alloys, while the Autograph features 21-inch wheels.
2027 Infiniti QX65 AutographAt the rear, the design is once again successful, with a full-width light bar inspired by the QX80. The centre section mimics piano notes with a series of LED rectangles. The tailgate is steeply angled to reinforce the coupe identity. Overall, the QX65 is a strong design success.
A cabin borrowed from the QX60
The interior presentation comes directly from the QX60, which is expected. The overall layout is modern and was updated in 2025. Starting with the Sport trim, a 10.3-inch head-up display is included, along with dual 12.3-inch screens found across Nissan and Infiniti models.
Technology includes Google Assistant integration, along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2027 Infiniti QX65 AutographThe QX65 Autograph adds open-pore wood trim, a quilted leather dashboard, aluminum cargo scuff plates, and illuminated front and rear door sills. Semi-aniline leather seats feature an asymmetrical diagonal quilting pattern inspired by kimono folds. Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats are included, as are heated rear seats. With the red interior option, the overall ambiance leans toward an Italian-inspired exotic feel.
Klipsch is again part of the game
For audio enthusiasts, each trim level offers a different sound system. The base Luxe model includes 11 speakers. The Sport introduces a 16-speaker Klipsch system, while the Autograph pushes output to 1,200 watts through 20 speakers.
Rear access remains easy despite the sloping roofline, and the cabin prioritizes comfort. The second row slides and reclines, allowing for more legroom or increased cargo capacity. Cargo space stands at 1,014 litres and expands to 1,917 litres with the seats folded.
A familiar powertrain, unfortunately…
For now, only one powertrain will be available: the 2.0-litre turbocharged variable compression four-cylinder first introduced in the QX50 in 2018. Despite producing 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque, the engine has been widely criticized for its lack of smooth power delivery. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

Some hope
Although not yet confirmed, rumours suggest a return of the V6 in the QX60, which could also find its way into the QX65. This would likely be the 3.5-litre V6 producing 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. While this would be a welcome addition, it would still fall short of the GV80 Coupe’s electrified turbocharged V6 delivering 405 horsepower. Enthusiasts can still dream of the return of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Red Sport models, rated at 400 horsepower.

On the other hand, the Genesis GV80 Coupe starts at over $105,000, while the QX65 is expected to come in at more than $30,000 less.
