Introducing the Ford Mustang GTD: An 800-Horsepower Marvel Priced at $300,000

Racing Pedigree Meets Road Elegance

  • Ford’s 2025 Mustang GTD combines Mustang GT3 DNA with street-legal features.

  • Features carbon fibre body, supercharged V8 engine, and advanced aerodynamic design.

  • Interior boasts Miko suede, leather, and digital displays; limited production at $300,000 MSRP.

In a bold move, Ford today unveiled its latest performance tour de force: the 2025 Mustang GTD. Borne from the dreams of an after-hours mission in 2021 at a secluded metal storage garage in Allen Park, Mich., the objective was ambitious — create a Mustang capable of rivaling Europe’s premier sports cars. The endgame? A limited-edition, ultra-high-performance machine, boasting race-derived technology yet tailored for the road.

A Vision Brought to Life

Deep within that Michigan garage, a dedicated team envisioned the ultimate Mustang, one that merges the DNA of the iconic Mustang GT3 race car with street-legal specifications. Ford CEO Jim Farley puts it succinctly: “This is a new approach for us. We didn’t engineer a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road.” The result is an awe-inspiring blend of heritage and innovation.

Race-Bred Technology, Road-Ready

A symphony of world-class tech, the Mustang GTD makes no compromises. Its body largely comprises carbon fibre, ensuring both reduced weight and increased agility. Under its hood roars a supercharged V8 engine, targeting an astounding 800+ horsepower. This raw power couples with an 8-speed dual-clutch rear transaxle and a carbon fibre driveshaft, resulting in an almost perfect weight balance. Active aerodynamics, carbon ceramic brakes, and a groundbreaking suspension system adjust both spring rate and ride height, adapting seamlessly to either track or street conditions. The aim is clear: a sub-7-minute Nürburgring lap time.

Integral to the Mustang GTD is its advanced aerodynamic design. From its vented hood and fenders to the hydraulically controlled rear wing, every element is purposed for optimum aerodynamic performance. Complementing this, an available aero package offers cutting-edge features like front flaps managed hydraulically for aerodynamic balance in tandem with the active rear wing.

Ford hasn’t stopped at just the exterior. Inside, the Mustang GTD offers a cockpit adorned with premium materials such as Miko suede, leather, and carbon fibre. Digital displays keep the driver fully engaged, while track-optimized RECARO seats ensure comfort and stability.

Drawing upon a storied racing lineage, the GTD is part of a prestigious Mustang family, ready to grace both streets and tracks globally. Designed as a collaboration between Ford and Multimatic, who were behind the Mustang GT3, GT4, and the Le Mans-winning Ford GT, the GTD represents years of accumulated engineering prowess.

With a production run set to be limited and an expected starting price of around $300,000 MSRP, the Mustang GTD is poised to redefine the boundaries of automotive performance when it hits the roads in late 2024 to early 2025.
