New Levorg leaks, WRX and WRX STI could borrow interior
Photos come from a performance version of the right-drive car
A new leak overnighted from Japan has captured the brochure for the new Subaru Levorg and giving us our first look at the interior of the second-gen of that model. And if you’re wondering what the Levorg is and why you should care, the reason is this: This could be what the next WRX will look like inside.
Levorg is a model that slots between the Impreza and Legacy in the Subaru lineup in Japan and some other markets. It’s a sort of Goldilocks version for customers and it comes as a wagon. The second-gen Levorg is about to go on sale after our getting to see the outside late last year, and parts of the brochure for the new car have been leaked by Creative311.com (via Motoring), giving us that inside look.
While the Levorg is larger than the Subaru Impreza, which has traditionally been the base for the WRX and WRX STI, they are built on the same platform. So the Levorg inside bits, especially for the sporting GT-H version with heavily bolstered seats and shiny pedals, could preview the next Rex.
Most prominent in the cabin is the giant touchscreen, like the one found in the Outback and Legacy, with just enough buttons and plenty of real estate for displays. There’s digital dash pictured here, which could, again, be handy for WRX and STI performance displays.
The chunkier seats wear the blue stitch of the GT-H, but substitute that blue thread for red in your mind, and you’re on the WRX path. The images also show metal trim unique to the car and a flat-bottomed steering wheel, all of which would seem right at home in the WRX.
When can we expect to see the actual new Subaru WRX, and confirm which engines will be under the hood? Hopefully sometime early next year. What we don’t really want is the Levorg’s engine, a 1.8L turbo four with just 177 hp.
